- Description: This is typical of much of Hardie's work which draws inspiration from his love of flying and the open spaces of the west coast and islands of Scotland.James Hardie has a pilot's license. He is an artist who only paints from his experience and flying has been an important part of his experiences. He strongly recalls flying into Plockton and this sight of windbreaks to assist planes flying in. He also recounts often walking the 2 miles from the airstrip into Plockton.
