- Description: This work is from the artist's Calais series and shows a tent at the migrant camp. It was exhibited as part of a series of exhibitions concerning refugee and migration issues at the University of Stirling during 2018-19, and was purchased by the Art Collection after the exhibition.
Calais is a body of work produced as a result of a visit made in 2015 by the artist, who spent time living with refugees in the makeshift campsite dubbed ‘The Jungle‘, where migrants camped out in the hope of being able to cross the border and make their journey over to England.
The artist‘s encounters with refugees in ‘the Jungle‘ dovetailed with his personal journey as a refugee to propel him to make work that shifted the way in which a wider audience is brought into proximity with the refugee experience. Tajik created a new body of work to introduce a ‘new‘ and different portrait of the refugee to the one we are accustomed to seeing in the mainstream media. - Dimensions: Framed size 54.5cm H x 79.5cm W
