This portrait is one of a series entlitled 'Three Women Artists'. Robin Gillanders writes about the choice of subject (Kathleen Jamie alongside portraits of visual artist Hanna Tuulikki and singer-songwriter Karine Polwart):
‘My motivation in making portraits of the three women artists in the show was that I have had a long admiration for their work and felt that they should be represented in collections, as acknowledgement of their contributions to culture in Scotland. I have long held the view that many of the main portrait collections in the UK often seem mainly interested in ‘celebrities‘ - probably the very people that don‘t really need promotion! I was also very keen that they should be represented as ‘real‘ women and not idealised in any way‘. - Dimensions: 107cm H x 90cm w framed
