- Description: These images (seven in all) draw on photographs of poets Alice Meynell and Edith Sitwell which depict them in front of tapestries and painted backdrops. In these images, the woman poet blends with the artistic scene itself, suggesting that she herself is an art object.
Another projection image using words of ‘La Gioconda‘, but this time the subject is appears almost prostrate and her eyes are closed. Is she dead or dreaming‘ This may be symbolic of how the muse is ‘killed‘ into art. The pose is also suggestive of crucifixion. Many women poets, including Christina Rossetti and ‘Michael Field‘ found religion inspiring, composing poems that use the Virgin Mary and other female saints as muses. - Dimensions: Framed: 83 cm (H) x 62 cm (W).
