- Description: The artwork was bought by the donor Edmund Bethune when still a schoolboy (pre 1998). It was purchased at a charity sale - 'Feed the Minds' Newington Churches Book sale - which for a few years included an art sale. The painting was donated to the sale by an unknown donor. It has now been discovered that Edmund Bethune's grandfather who is a retired GP in his eighties was at school (George Watson's) with Tom Cottrell, though Edmund was not aware of the connection when he purchased the painting. The artwork was donated to the University of Stirling Art Collection in return for a small donation to the Feed the Minds charity.
A label pasted on the back of the board reads 'Lily Cottrell, Carnival, £40, No.1' - Dimensions: Unframed: 76cm (H) x 122cm (W). This painting has no frame
