- Description: Archie Forrest works in the tradition of the Glasgow School and the Scottish Colourists, with still life, figure and landscape subjects of brilliant colour and bravura handling, underpinned by fine drawing and a sense of form. He is also a sculptor and this aspect of his work can perhaps be seen in his painted works, which are worked as very physical pieces. He has been dubbed ‘Scotland‘s leading contemporary Colourist Painter‘ ‘ and is recognised as the natural successor to colourists Peploe and Cadell, and also to Anne Redpath, but his influences have been derived too from European painters such as Matisse and Cezanne.
