- Description: This painting was conceived from a memory of an old tramp, in long coat and hat, who wandered the east end of Glasgow, a regular feature of the artist's childhood. Sleeping rough at night on the steps at the Trongate, during the day he carried cardboard boxes around with him, tied with string, and tied to him. The legend goes that when the old man died, these boxes were found to contain a quantity of money.
