- Description: The artist says: I have always preferred to understand landscape in light of its structure. I am interested in the architecture of both natural and man-made forms. I work from the visual facts in front of me, exploring structure through drawing, to establish elements which will later form the basis of the etching. These are extended through the material impact of the etching process itself. ‘Valley,‘ dates from 1962 when I spent the summer in a remote cottage above Blaenau Ffestiniog in north Wales. It was in fact a vast industrial landscape, marked by the remains of slate quarries. Since I do draw directly in landscape I have always remembered this particular experience.
