- Description: Fergusson portrays himself here with a very severe expression, verging on the brutal. This was painted during the years of the short-lived 'Fauvist' movement (notably Matisse and Derain) and is clearly influenced by their emphasis on a strong colour in a modern style, with simplified subject matter and a high degree of abstraction.
