- Description: Gillies's work portraying changing skies and Scottish landscapes was painted outdoors with oils or watercolours and shows the influence of Edvard Munch and Emil Nolde. His later landscapes were more complex and pencil and ink outlines became more important in his watercolours.
Here you can see his two main interests in line and colour. He also was moving towards abstraction in his respect for the flatness of the picture surface. Here you can see a flattening of the picture, the house pulled forward onto the surface, rather than offering a strong sense of perspective. - Dimensions: Framed: 68.5cm (H) x 81cm (W ). Unframed: 48.5cm (H) x 62 cm (W).
