- Administrative History: John McAllion was born in Glasgow in 1948. He studied as St Andrews University and Dundee College of Education. Between 1973 and 1982 he worked as a teacher in Dundee and was involved in the Scottish Labour Party. He then became Labour MP Bob McTaggart Research Assistant 1982 - 1986 (Glasgow Central). He was elected to Tayside Council in 1984 and became Council Leader 1986. In 1987 he beat Gordon Wilson to win Dundee East, a seat he held till 2001. Involved in Scottish Labour Action Feb 1988. He founded Scotland United with Dennis Canavan in 1992. In 1996 resigned as Labour Scottish Affairs Spokesman on announcement of referendum. 1999- 2003 MSP Dundee East.
