- Administrative History: The Scottish Castles Association is a membership organisation which supports the protection, conservation and restoration of Scotland?s ancient castles, towers and fortified houses. It was founded in 1996 by a small group of enthusiasts who were primarily concerned with the many castles and fortified houses which are not in receipt of public funding to support their upkeep. The Association?s membership has grown to include castle owners, academics and architects. The Association is managed by an elected Council and runs a busy programme of castle tours and social events.
