Fae Raploch to Elland Road

William John Bremner, known as Billy, was born in Stirling on 9 December 1942. He lived at 35a Weir Street in the Raploch in the shadow of Stirling Castle with his adopted parents Pop and Bessie Bremner. Billy signed for Leeds United shortly after his 17th birthday on 12th December 1959 and made his senior debut against Chelsea on 23rd January 1960.

It was widely known his early days in Yorkshire were filled with homesickness, especially for his fiancée Vicky Dick, and he frequently made trips north to Raploch. The Leeds manager Don Revie travelled to Stirling to persuade Vicky of his intentions to build a team around the talented teenager, and in November 1961 the couple were married and settled into a new home in Leeds. This project is the story of Bremner’s early life in football, “Fae Raploch to Elland Road”.
