  • Biography: After war service (1945-48), including a spell in Venice which began his art education, Richard Robbins studied English at Oxford and then art at Goldsmiths and Slade. He specialised in drawing, painting and sculpture, and taught throughout his life, but also wrote poetry and loved sport. He was elected an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2004.
    The artist was the only son of the Rt. Hon. Lord Robbins (1898 – 1984), Chairman of the influential 1963 committee report on higher education and first Chancellor of the University of Stirling.
