Alberto Morrocco (1917 – 1998)

Biography: Born in Aberdeen to Italian immigrant parents, Alberto Morrocco OBE FRSA FRSE RSW RP RGI LLD studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in the 1930s. In1939 he went abroad and studied in France and Switzerland. After war service, he continued his painting and also worked as an illustrator until he was appointed Head of Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee. Upon retirement from teaching in 1982, Morrocco was able to concentrate on exhibition and commission opportunities. He was prolific, participating in many group exhibitions both at home and abroad.
A dual career as a portrait painter led him to depict a wide variety of sitters from HM The Queen Mother to the President of Iceland and also four Principals of the University of Stirling, which awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in 1987.
