EFG Photographic Archive

Please note this project is now fully subscribed and we do not require any further volunteers for this phase of the project.

Background information: In 2022 the Edinburgh Film Guild’s photographic archive was transferred to the University of Stirling Archives. The collection consists of over 10,000 photographs of films screened by the Guild since its foundation in 1929, arranged alphabetically by film.

Project details: Creating a full list of the contents of the collection, by film. The photographs for each film were kept in a separate envelope with information about the film recorded on the front of the envelope. This information will be recorded on an Excel database. Basic cleaning and repacking of the collection will also be carried out. Volunteers should have a knowledge of and/or interest in the history of cinema.

Location: In person, in the archives reading room (located in the University Library). Cataloguing will be carried out using Microsoft Teams and Excel.

Skills gained: Volunteers will acquire skills in handling photographic material, creating catalogue descriptions and basic conservation and preservation techniques, valuable skills for those with an interest in working in archives and libraries.
