The Brig Digital Archive
Project update (November 2023): In 2019 the University Archives received support from the Stirling Fund to digitise the first twenty-five years of Brig, the university’s student newspaper. The paper has been a constant presence in student’s lives providing an alternative student-centred view of life on campus since its first issue in October 1969. With the first twenty-five years of Brig now available to view, the project is preparing the next set of issues from the 1980s and 1990s for publication online.
Project details: Creating detailed descriptions of the contents of each issue of Brig to add to the catalogue and improve the searchability of the collection.
Location: This project can be carried out in person in the archives reading room working with original issues of the newspaper or online working with digitised content using Microsoft Teams and Word.
Skills gained: Volunteers will acquire skills in creating catalogue descriptions and indexing, valuable skills for those with an interest in working in archives and libraries.
